At first the Avatara were supposed to be heavily armoured cloned "super troopers" for the Spires. The first couple of iterations were along those lines. After feedback, I had to move away from the "clone-in-heavy-armour" in the design and to make them more elegant(the revised version is an exploration of that). At this point, I wondered: and what if the Avatara are just a shell-a doll that is remotely controlled? This led to the final concept where the doll aspect is pronounced with features such as ball joints, excessive decoration-and hairstyles- and of course, extremely exaggerated proportions.
